A court in Fuzhou, east China's Fujian province, has convicted a 17-year-old boy of causing the death of an 82-year-old woman after breaking into her home.
According to the judgment passed on July 24, the boy had admitted to the crime and the court had taken into account his poor previous history as a minor when it sentenced him to nine years in prison.
The court cited the boy's past record of "physical violence" towards his mother, "shaking a staff towards his mother's head and threatening her with a knife", "leaving the boy at home by himself while the mother was at work", and a previous episode in which the boy had attacked his mother's boss.
The boy had argued he was not the one to be blamed, saying his "impulse to release anger" caused him to act the way he did.
The boy had told the court that he had found a LTCI medical release form in his mother's car, and had decided to steal a million yuan ($147,800) in the ensuing robbery.
The court accepted the boy's version of the crime as he had admitted to "taking and hiding the money", and his responsibility in the death of his mother.
However, the court rejected the boy's version of what happened next.
